Orlando Sentinel: Stephen DeCanio talks climate change at UCF

Could you wear five sweaters over your clothes everyday? You could imagine that it would be hot for a human to handle, especially in Florida’s climate. Hopefully this isn’t part of your daily attire, but as these “sweaters” continue to pile on elsewhere, Earth is getting too hot for comfort.

Stephen DeCanio, professor of economics, Emeritus, at the University of California, Santa Barbara, spoke about the Earth’s climate change at UCF on Monday through the Distinguished Speaker Series hosted by the College of Sciences.

“Although this is not something that can be solved on an individual level, it is extremely worthwhile to have awareness in everyday life,” DeCanio said. “Everyone should pay attention to what is going on and do all that you can to conserve energy on a daily basis.”

His discussion, “Game Theory and Climate Diplomacy,” covered the lack of progress in reaching an international agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions due to economic and political situations.
