Winter Springs woman’s love for UCF lasted a lifetime

Nancy Burnett Gerber worked at the University of Central Florida only a short time, but her love of the university lasted a lifetime through her membership in clubs that promoted UCF.

The longtime wife of a UCF associate professor, she was a member of the UCF Women’s Club during its founding and the Town and Gown Council, which serves as a liaison between the university and the community, after it began in 1982. The Winter Springs woman spent her time raising money for college scholarships, praying with people who had been hospitalized and arranging events to showcase UCF.

“She was just the type of person who did what she could do to assist her university and community,” Dell Shadgett, 74, of Winter Park, a fellow member of both clubs, said Wednesday.
