ICMM 2O12 – Reminder of Early Registration Deadline

Dear Colleague,

We want to bring to your attention the quickly approaching deadlines for early registration and application for student fellowships, among other important information needed in preparation for the ICMM 2012 in Orlando, 7-11 October 2012. See below.

1) Early registration deadline – JUNE 15th

Early conference registration rates are still available:

•       Faculty/senior participants: $650  ($750 after June 15th)

•       Postdocs: $550  ($650 after June 15th)

•       Students: $300  ($400 after June 15th)

•       Accompanying persons: $450 ($550 after June 15th)

•       Conference Banquet: $50 ($75 after June 15th)

•       Kennedy Space Center Tour (Wednesday afternoon): $90 ($120 after June 15th) The reduced registration fees will be available until June 15th. The registration fee includes attendance to all conference sessions and covers the conference meals (reception, 4 lunches, 2 dinners and coffee breaks). Breakfast will also be included for participants staying at the conference hotel, i.e., the Rosen Centre.

2) Deadline for registration to students tutorials – JUNE 15th

There will be a series of tutorial sessions offered by some of the plenary and invited speakers attending the conference. The event will be held in the Physical Science building at the University of Central Florida. Sessions will run from 9am to 5pm, and tutorials will cover different exciting aspects of current research on molecule-based magnetism, including chemistry, physics and materials science. A detailed program will be posted on the conference website nearer the time. The event will include coffee/refreshment breaks and a group lunch for all participants. Students and postdocs interested in attending the tutorials should send an email request to icmm2012students@gmail.com before June 15th, including “Re:tutorials” in the message subject line. State that you are willing to attend the tutorials. We will send you a confirmation email upon receipt and inform you about the details of the event in due course.

 3) Deadline for application for a student fellowship – JUNE 15th

We anticipate making a limited number of fellowships available to graduate students. These fellowships will include a waiver of the registration fee and a monetary contribution to help cover part of the travel and accommodation costs. Fellows will be given the opportunity to present a flash oral presentation of their work during the conference. Applicants must email the following documentation to icmm2012students@gmail.com before June 15th, indicating “Re: ICMM student fellowship” in the message subject line:

•       Personal curriculum vitae

•       Recommendation letter from immediate research supervisor

•       Abstract of the contribution to be presented at the conference (general guidelines for abstract submission apply). Please be sure to submit your abstract online as well; unsuccessful fellowship applications will automatically be selected for poster presentations.

•       Students applying for a fellowship must register for the Tutorials (see above).

Applications from students with outstanding results and/or in special need will be given priority during the selection process.

 4) Other important information and links of interest

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION: www.icmm2012.us  is accepting submissions of abstracts online. The abstract submission deadline is August 15th (June 15th if applying for a student fellowship). All abstracts will be selected for either an oral or poster presentation; you will be prompted for your preference during submission, though we can only accommodate a limited number of requests for oral presentations.

EDUCATION/OUTREACH EVENT: On the evening of Tuesday, October 9th, there will be a 2-hour session dedicated to science education and magnetism outreach. This event, sponsored by Webassign, will include fun magnetism-related demonstrations and presentations from faculty dedicated to science education research. BOOK YOUR ROOM AT THE ROSEN CENTRE: Rooms have been reserved at the conference hotel, and are available to all conference participants at a special group rate. ICMM – Group rate:  single/double room = $108/night* (additional person $20) Conference breakfast coupons will be given to participants staying at the conference hotel.

WELCOME RECEPTION AND CLOSING BANQUET: Please join us for the Welcome Reception on Sunday, October 7th at 7:00pm.  This will be held at the Rosen School of Hospitality (9907 Universal Boulevard, Orlando, Florida 32819). Transportation will be provided for the short ride from the Rosen Centre Hotel and will run continuously throughout the evening. The conference will close with a banquet at the Rosen Centre Hotel on the evening of Thursday, October 11th. Poster awards and student recognitions will be presented at the banquet. This event is not included in the initial registration fee. To reserve a place at this limited seating event, please make your reservation during the registration process (you will be prompted to do so).
