The Designing Research & Education for Addiction Management (DREAM) lab is directed by Dr. Lidia Meshesha. Research in the DREAM lab aims to understand factors related to the initiation, maintenance, and treatment of substance use disorders. There is a particular focus in evaluating novel interventions delivered through advanced technology in order to improve treatment outcomes. Currently, the Dream lab has a 5-year NIAAA funded grant to develop and investigate an ecological momentary assessment + ecological momentary intervention (EMA/EMI) delivered through a smartphone app as an adjunctive intervention for adults in alcohol use disorder treatment. Further, the lab conducts research on

  • Behavioral economic theory-based mechanisms of understanding addiction
  • The role of rewarding substance-free activity engagement (including physical activity) in substance use
  • Disparities related to substance use among minorities
  • Behavioral intervention development and evaluation
  • Use of technology based longitudinal assessment of risky behavior
