Avoiding online gaffes

Journalism instructor, Rick Brunson, led a webinar for members of the Florida Press Club recently titled “Avoiding Online Gaffes.’’ In the webinar Brunson covered protocols and best practices for reducing errors while producing breaking news on the Web. Brunson teaches reporting, editing, ethics and magazine production in the Nicholson School. The Florida Press Club is a non-profit organization of writers, editors, photographers, graphic artists, researchers, librarians, and support technicians who work at Florida’s daily and weekly newspapers. As a result of Brunson’s participation in the webinar, an FPC member decided to employ a Nicholson School student as an intern for the summer. “This was my first webinar,’’ Brunson said. “It was fun, and I picked up a new tool to use in my toolbox as an instructor.’’
