Florida Political Science Association Chooses Longtime Professor For Award

The Florida Political Science Association has picked a UCF associate professor for its most prestigious honor – an award given only every three years.

Aubrey Jewett, Ph.D., was honored with the Manning J. Dauer award in recognition of his “sustained exemplary record of research, teaching, mentoring and service related to Florida politics and policy and supportive involvement with the Florida Political Science Association.”

“I am so honored and humbled that my incredible colleagues — people that have achieved so much and that I look up to — decided to choose me for this award,” said Jewett, a member of the FPSA since 1995, a former president and its current treasurer.

Jewett joined UCF in 1995 and earned his Ph.D. in political science from Florida State University in 1997. Teaching has always been a passion of the professor, along with conducting research and mentoring students.

“I love teaching,” said Jewett. “I’ve taught thousands of students over the time that I’ve been here, and it’s one of my favorite parts of the job. I developed the Florida Politics course at UCF and it is my favorite course to teach because I feel that in connects students to political science in a particularly relevant way.”

Jewett’s publications cover many aspects of Florida politics and policy and his co-authored book Politics in Florida is in its fifth edition.

Jewett’s expertise on Florida politics is acknowledged outside the discipline. He has been interviewed thousands of times with his analysis and commentary appearing in a wide variety of local, state, national and international media.

The Manning J. Dauer award, named after FPSA co-founder Manning Julian Dauer, was established in the early 2000s. Jewett is the seventh person to receive the award.

“I am flattered that my professional colleagues recognized my career achievements to date, and I look forward to continuing my research, teaching and service related to Florida politics for many years to come” said Jewett.
