Pi Sigma Alpha’s Comeback Year

psaPi Sigma Alpha is all about rebuilding and rebranding this year. In order to accomplish this, new PSA president, Aissa Dorange, is determined to bring in a new look and feel to the club. “PSA has not been a very active club in the past few semesters, so as the new president, I plan on pushing for service opportunities like environmental cleanups and campaign drives, having guest speakers, and social events for club bonding.”

One of over 740 chapters, the UCF Pi Sigma Alpha chapter is one of the many registered student organizations on campus. Advised by Political Science faculty member, Dr. Paul Vasquez, the club is geared to those interested in Political Science and recognizes students who excel in the field while providing an environment for students to engage in research and conversations in politics.

“The benefits of joining are that PSA provides a boost to resumes, leadership, research and scholarship opportunities,” states Dorange. She emphasizes that PSA is different from other organizations because there are high requirements to join (3.5 GPA) and official members have to be juniors and seniors. “Our purpose is to recognize students who have high achievements in political science.”

Dorange has more in the works for PSA, such as expanding their membership, but she will need help. “I would like to do more in the future, as long as more people will join and be excited to participate.” She continues to say, “We would like to set up study groups so that we can all help each other with preparing for tests and writing papers.” She would even like for Career Services to come speak to the club so that they can learn about resume building and how their members can obtain more career opportunities.

Additionally, Dr. Kerstin Hamann, Professor and Chair of the Political Science Department, was recently appointed as the club’s national Executive Council putting her in charge of the organization’s policies, operations and award selection processes.

With so many aspirations for the organization, Pi Sigma Alpha is set on a journey for new beginnings and hope. Those interested in becoming members can find the more information and applications here.
