UCF Alumna Writes Her Way Around the World
Sarah Sekula, ’00, describes herself as a writer, photographer, editor and chronic adventurer. Her writing has taken her to 21 different countries on six continents. She writes about her adventures, fitness, health/wellness and extraordinary people. Sekula has written for publications such as USA Today, ISLANDS, ShermansTravel.com, CNN Travel, Orlando Sentinel and more. She has also appeared on many nationally syndicated shows including FOX 35 and the Daily buzz as a TV correspondent.
Sekula’s travels have included dog-sledding in Quebec, swimming with sea lions in the Galapagos, hiking the tallest glacier in Iceland and scaling a volcano in Chile. Sekula has had various opportunities in her journalism career to interview many unique individuals such as Oylmpic gold medalist, Usain Bolt, Arnold Palmer, Iron Chef star Cat Cora and many more.
In her biography, Sekula said, “I’m also an editor and a photographer, and I have a strong background in public relations, too. To sum it up, I have a knack for rounding up facts, reliable storytelling, deadline-chasing, project-juggling and wiggling my ears (which hasn’t come in handy yet).”
Sekula graduated from the UCF Nicholson School of Communication in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
