Steve Masyada (Ph.D, University of Florida), a veteran of the US Air Force, is director of the Lou Frey Institute of Politics and Government and its Florida Joint Center for Citizenship. He works with colleagues in the Institute to develop curricular resources for K-16 and adult civics education while also providing professional development support for K-16 educators in the field of civics and government teaching and learning. His work and research interests focus on civics education (quality instruction, resources, and outcomes); student assessment in civics and government; the importance of civil discourse; and instructional leadership in the social sciences and social studies education. His writing has appeared in Theory and Research in Social Education, Social Studies Research and Practice, The Councilor:  A National Journal of the Social Studies, and multiple book chapters targeting practitioners in the field of social studies and civics education. Dr. Masyada has served on multiple state and national committees, boards, and task forces for civics and social studies education, and been a keynote speaker for these sorts of organizations in Massachusetts, Utah, and Florida, among other states.
