Dr. Suman Acharya is an Assistant Professor in the School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs (SPSIA) at the University of Central Florida. With a multidisciplinary background in environmental anthropology, forestry, and climate science, Dr. Acharya’s research examines the political dimensions of environmental change and security, multilevel governance, political ecology, and the intersections of power, collective action, and environmental policy. His work focuses on understanding the complex and evolving relationships between communities and their environments to advance sustainability, security, and resilience. From 2017 to 2018, Dr. Acharya served as the District Climate Change Specialist for the Adaptation for Smallholders in Hilly Areas (ASHA) project under the Government of Nepal. He has since held diverse positions across several organizations in Nepal, contributing to climate change adaptation, environmental governance, and community-based development initiatives. Dr. Acharya currently serves as an Assistant Editor for World Water Policy Journal and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences (JESS). He has published over a dozen peer-reviewed articles in leading academic journals, as well as a book chapter in his area of expertise. In addition to his academic work, he consults for various institutions in Nepal and the United States on issues related to global environmental challenges.
