Research Area(s)
Dr. Eric Reyier’s current research focuses on using passive acoustic telemetry to resolve the habitat preferences, seasonal migrations, and spawning locations of estuarine and coastal fishes in east Florida and throughout the southeastern United States. Current species under study include several coastal sharks (lemon, blacknose, finetooth, spinner, scalloped hammerheads) and coveted teleost sportfish such as red and black drum, spotted seatrout, bluefish, mackerel, and cobia. Our team also employs a variety of traditional sampling gears to document temporal abundance trends in fish of all sizes, and we currently operate the only year-round fisheries-independent longline survey on the Florida east coast
