UCF Celebrates Constitution Day
Earlier this month the University of Central Florida joined in the celebration of Constitution Day; the 229th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
Constitution Day is an American Federal holiday that is observed annually on September 17: the anniversary of the Constitutional Congress’s final meeting when the Constitution was signed. UCF celebrated Constitution Day with a special event on Friday, September 16, 2016.
The UCF College of Undergraduate Studies teamed up with the Department of Political Science and the Lou Frey Institute to mark this important event.

he UCF Neptune Community building was filled with 30 UCF students, staff and faculty to discuss the importance of the Constitution.
Houman Sadri, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Political Science, led a discussion about the influence of this landmark document on our nation and foreign affairs.
Sadri discussed how the Constitution affects our everyday lives in different ways. From legislative power to freedom of expression, Sadri outlined the importance of what the Constitution means for the United States and the American people.
“As an immigrant, the U.S. Constitution means something a little different to me,” Sadri explained.
Sadri is an internationally recognized authority on international relations who has been at the university since 1995. During the pursuit of his doctoral degree from the University of Virginia, he focused on American policy and government as the essence of the foreign policy making system.
His academic background along with his experience as an immigrant has brought Sadri to appreciate and understand the value of the U.S. Constitution.
“The Constitution can be easily taken for granted, but it is too important to be ignored,” he explained. “It is important for all U.S. citizens, especially our students.” 
On top of his duties in the UCF political science department, Sadri serves as an area study scholar and consultant for the U.S. Government in the geographic areas of the Persian Gulf and Caspian Sea which have a major strategic value. He provides area expertise to elected officials for informed and educated decision making on their policies.
Most recently, Sadri received a medal dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Assembly of Kazakhstan at its Embassy in Washington, D.C. in recognition of his important contribution to the promotion of Kazakhstan’s model of peace and harmony, and his development of friendly relations between two nations.
