Summer Internship Opportunities
As the temperature gets warmer, we’re all thinking about summer plans. An internship or study abroad program can be a great opportunity for students to gain real-life experience in their field of study and travel to a new place. Here are a few with upcoming deadlines:
EEOP Internships
Application Due: February 25, 2019
Internship Period: 8 weeks
Where: Various
The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) offers paid internships to Native American and other college students majoring in an environmental or related field like science, engineering, planning, policy, law, management, political science, anthropology, health, etc and have an interest in pursuing an environmental career upon graduating from college. The internships will take place at several host sites throughout the country.
Nasa DEVELOP
Application Due: March 1, 2019
Internship period: June 3 – August 9, 2019
Where: Various locations in the U.S.
In this internship, small multidisciplinary teams will work together on various projects all over the country. This internship is open to currently enrolled/graduated students from a U.S. accredited community college, undergraduate or graduate college or university. While the program is available to all majors, those with interests in Earth sciences, remote sensing, environmental science, computer science, GIS, technology, and environmental policy should especially consider this opportunity.
SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship)
Application Due: March 1
Internship Period: May 17-July 19
Where: UCF
If you’re intimidated by publishing your research — or not sure where to start — take advantage of this hands-on guidance from the Office of Undergraduate Research. Two tracks are offered: one for students who will learn how prepare a poster for presentation; and a more advanced track that will prepare students to submit a manuscript to a research journal. Both tracks offer a $1,500 scholarship.
Citizen Science GIS in Orlando & Belize
Application Due: March 15, 2019
Internship Period: June 3-July 18, 2019.
Where: Orlando, FL and Belize
In this paid research trip, students will work as a team with community partners and mentors from University of Central Florida, University of Belize, The Hopkins Belize Village Council, and The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystems Program. Students interested in careers in GIS, geospatial technologies, geography, sociology, geosciences, education, community development, public health, and land use planning should apply.
