COS Welcomes Associate Dean

Jasinski

This summer the UCF College of Sciences welcomed its newest associate dean, Jana Jasinski, Ph.D. Dr. Jasinski’s chief responsibilities will be overseeing faculty relations, graduate studies, and marketing & communications for the college.

Dr. Jasinski came to UCF in 1999 as an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology following two years as an assistant professor in Sociology at Wichita State University. She served as chair of the UCF Sociology Department from 2011-2014 and most recently as associate dean in the College of Graduate Studies since 2014.

“Her impressive accomplishments in these roles led me to appoint her without conducting a search, which is an option available for graduates of UCF’s Leadership Enhancement Program,” explained Michael Johnson, Ph.D., Dean of the UCF College of Sciences.

Dr. Jasinski received her Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire in 1996 where she was also a National Institute of Mental Health Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Family Research Laboratory.

Dr. Jasinski’s research interests focus primarily on the areas of lethal and non-lethal interpersonal violence with an emphasis on intimate partner violence, substance abuse, and institutional responses to violence. She has received several grants from the National Institute of Justice, the most recent of which resulted in the co-authored research monograph Hard Lives, Mean Streets: The experience of violence in the lives of homeless women.

As an applied Sociologist, Dr. Jasinski partners with various entities both at UCF and in the Central Florida Community. She is the past President of the Board of Directors for Harbor House, the Orange County FL domestic violence shelter, served as the chairperson of the advisory board for the shelter, and served as a member of the Orange County Underage Drinking Task Force Implementation Committee. She is also the recipient of several college and university awards including the Award for Faculty Excellence in Mentoring Doctoral Students, the College of Sciences Excellence in Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Awards, 3 TIP awards and 2 RIA awards.

The College of Sciences’ faculty and staff are excited to welcome Dr. Jasinski as an associate dean of the college.
