The Future of BRICS
As a political adviser at the Brazilian House of Representatives and a Ph.D. candidate in Security Studies at UCF, Marcos Degaut‘s paper “Do the BRICS Still Matter” was recently published by the Center for Strategic and International Affairs (CSIS). BRICS accounts for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as an analytical category providing a critical explanation to the future of the global economic powers. This paper introduces whether or not the possibilities of an effective intra-group cooperation could lead to a major change in world power distribution and how member differences could prevent the BRICS from proving a coherent and effective strategic alliance. Mr. Degaut states in his paper, “The BRICS have become relevant actors in the international arena and cannot be ignored any longer.”
