The Latin American/Latinx Film Festival will concurrently hold a student video competition. The competition is designed to showcase the experience of the Latin American and/or Latinx community. Topics can include short oral histories, issues of social justice, gender, race, identity, memory, or fiction. Digital submissions are due November 29, 2021. The chosen finalists will be presented in a virtual screening on December 3, 2021.

Submission Guidelines

  1. This video competition is only open to UCF students and is not “major specific.” All UCF majors are eligible to submit for the festival video competition.
  2. Video entries should be 7 to 10 minutes in length and should have a focus on the Latin American/Latinx experience. We will accept narratives or documentaries.
  3. Entries may be in a language other than English but must contain English subtitles if the dialogue is not in English. Non-English entries submitted without subtitles are not eligible
  4. Video entries must be submitted in a digital format by November 25, 2021 to be considered and accepted into the festival. Password-protected files or files that cannot be opened by the judges will not be considered. “ACCEPTANCE” only means that your video will be reviewed by the judges and considered as part of the competition.
  5. You will be notified if your submission is accepted into LALAX ASAP after the deadline. Once chosen as an “Official Selection” the judges will determine which videos will be screened to the Film Festival audience. Due to the large number of videos received, please submit your video early to be considered for awards, and please be patient with the LALAX team. Thank you so much.
  6. Applicant confirms and warrants their legal authority to submit the film or photos and/or works, etc. in the entry and other materials to the LALAX Film Festival.
  7. Applicant assumes responsibility for the use of all music, images, graphics, and content in the film or music entered in the festival. By submitting your video, you agree to take full responsibility and liability for any and all damages associated with the showing of the film or broadcast of the music entered into the festival.
  8. The winner and runners-up of the video competition will be announced on Friday, December 3 and will be awarded a 2021 Latin American/Latinx Film Festival Certificate.
