Richard E. Tyre joined the faculty of the University of Central Florida in 2023 after a nine-year stint as an as adjunct instructor. Before arriving at UCF, Tyre was a visiting instructor at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, and at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Tyre’s research interests are in Political Geography, Spatial Data, Mapping, and United States Regional Geography, with a special emphasis in Appalachia. Growing up in West Virginia, Tyre understands the balance between human development and environmental concerns, trying to find a human-environment interaction in which both sides are heard. His goal in all of his courses is to help the students find connections between their degree programs and geographic concepts. Prior to his academic career, Tyre work with regional campaigns, assisting with strategies to win the unique and under-studied Appalachian region and with college athletics, serving as an academic mentor and coach to Student-Athletes.
