Chapter Meeting

Fundraising
Would like to raise anywhere between $500.00 – $1,000.00. Funds can be used to pay for the Halloween party, ship books from the book drive, etc. Can also get about $1,500 through UCF, can save it for plane tickets. Fiscal year is from July to July, might be able to get the money from this fiscal year as well as the next.
Fundraising Ideas
- Car Wash, cooler temperatures, not during the rainy season, might be able to raise a lot of money.
- Donors Choose – Can pick who to donate money to. One teacher in Florida is trying to raise money to buy robots so students can run experiments, could potentially fund all of it.
- Poker Game, $10.00 buy-in. First prize is $30,00, second is $10.00, rest goes toward food, drinks, and fundraising/donating.
- Disney – Some amusement parks have a deal where they will pay members of student organizations for a day’s worth of work. Beth is going to look into whether or not Disney does this.
- Restaurants have deals with student organizations where they will donate a portion of their day’s profits to organizations if people bought their food with a special coupon.
Field Trip
Take a trip to NASA sometime in December, maybe get a group rate ($15 or $20 per person). About 10 people expressed interest. Also, interest in going during a launch (next launch isn’t until February 2010).
Holiday Party
In lieu of funding and organizing a full-blown party, have a holiday “bar crawl” downtown. Have a few designated drivers, use some Safe Ride passes, meet downtown early (between 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM) for the $1.00 sushi deal at Shari Sushi Lounge (http://www.sharisushilounge.com/). Tentatively to be held on Friday, December 18, 2009.
New Officers and Elections
Elections aren’t for another 4 months, but it would be nice to train incoming officers (January to April). Will be accepting people into all positions – President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Social Chair, and Webmaster. Javier has expressed interest in staying in his current position if he can.
