Preparing Your Talk
As a guest speaker, it helps to feel as prepared as possible. Here are a few tips to create an impactful session:
- Know your Audience and Environment: Learn about the course or event you will be addressing, the format, and who is listening to your talk. By gathering any helpful information you can better understand who will be in the audience and align your points to meet the goals of the event or class.
- Reflect on your Own Memorable Lecture Experiences: Recall your time as a student and consider how you can improve or enhance the learning experience.
- Engage and Inspire: Keep it simple and authentic by sharing your own experiences to help students feel more comfortable and connected to you as a speaker.

- Before Your Talk
- Clarify any expectations with your faculty or event host.
- Prepare and share any visual aids, presentations, or other materials with your host in advance of your engagement.
- Practice your slides for pace and timing.
