Biography

Atakan is a doctoral student in the Anthropology Department at the University of Central Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Türkiye, a master’s degree in Classical Archaeology from Florida State University, and a master’s degree in Art History from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His primary academic focus revolves around Bronze and Iron Age Anatolian Art and Archaeology. He has actively contributed to various archaeological projects, participating in Spring Creek/Florida excavations, Assos, Kültepe, and Yalburt Yaylası Archaeological Landscape Research Project. He is currently a team member of the Kerkenes Project in Türkiye, where his research examines the orientation of buildings at Kerkenes and its relationship with social order in Kerkenes society. His work incorporates Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, and quantitative research methodologies, as well as artificial intelligence to analyze ancient architecture and spatial organization.
