The anthropology major results in a broad understanding of human and the human condition, both past and present.  Students are required to pursue a course of study that leads to training in all subfields of anthropology.

The recognized subfields are:

  • Archaeology
  • Cultural Anthropology
  • Physical Anthropology
  • Linguistic Anthropology.
Focal areas for the department are:

  • Peoples and Cultures of the New World
    (both ancient and modern)
  • Archaeology and Forensics
  • Cultural Competency
  • Medical Anthropology.

Students majoring or minoring in anthropology with sufficient course background may be provided an opportunity to participate in study abroad/field school programs.
