Dr. Eric Stolen’s research interests focus on understanding the role of habitat on the persistence of imperiled species, using quantitative methods to measure and model animal movement, habitat use and metapopulation ecology. He has studied a variety of vertebrates in Florida including vultures, wading and shore birds, Florida-scrub jays, southeastern beach mice, and bottlenose dolphins. His approach is to combine well-designed question-driven field investigation with computationally-intensive simulation approaches to study design, multi-model inference and individual based modeling. Most recently he has begun using Bayesian hierarchical models as a flexible and reliable approach to investigate latent (unobservable or partially observable) demographic state variables. Dr. Stolen enjoys collaborating with others to apply novel analytic approaches to questions.
