Distinguished Speaker Curbs Conflict in Relationships
Wednesday, February 11, Dr. Dan Canary, a professor of communication at the University of Utah, discussed the topic of conflict management during his talk in the College of Sciences Distinguished Speaker Series.
His presentation, “Managing Conflict Strategically in Personal Relationships” came just in time for Valentine’s Day. He spoke about the social science research that led to the identification of destructive and constructive conflict communication strategies. He also included how those strategies can lead to different outcomes.
Approximately 55 people attended the talk at Cocina214. Among those in attendance was Maggie LeClair, Senior Administrative Assistant in the College of Sciences, who thoroughly enjoyed her first DSS talk.
“I appreciated and enjoyed the informality of the venue and the opportunity to interact with the speaker during his talk and later at a ‘Q and A,’” she said.
The College of Sciences will be hosting one final talk in their 2015 series, Barry Fisher, a Senior Forensic Advisor for the US Department of Justice ICITAP, on March 18 at 6 p.m. He will be presenting “CSI in Real Life: Realities of Modern Forensic Science.”
