Celebrating a Legacy of Generosity: The Dr. M Timothy O’Keefe Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship in Journalism Fund

Dr. M. Timothy O’Keefe

Dr. M. Timothy O’Keefe, Emeritus Professor of Journalism at the University of Central Florida, and his wife, Linda, have etched their names into UCF’s history with a profound act of philanthropy. By thoughtfully including the Nicholson School of Communication and Media’s Journalism program in their trust documents, they have ignited a beacon of hope for future generations.

The Gift That Transforms Lives

Tim and Linda’s bequest, bestowed through a trust designation, will catalyze multiple endowed scholarships within the Nicholson School of Communication and Media’s Journalism program. These scholarships will empower meritorious Juniors and Seniors who face financial barriers and allow them to unleash their potential.

Inspiring Generations to Come

Dr. O’Keefe, an accomplished educator, author, and award-winning photographer, dedicated over three decades of his life to shaping young minds within the Nicholson School. He and Linda envision a UCF where financial barriers do not hinder future potential. They see the value that journalists play in a functioning and healthy society, and wish to secure that value moving forward. Their philanthropy transcends mere dollars; it is a beacon of hope, a promise of opportunity. As we celebrate UCF’s Day of Giving, let us amplify their generous legacy—a legacy that will echo through lecture halls, newsrooms, and hearts for generations to come. Today we honor Tim and Linda, champions of education, and architects of an even brighter future for UCF students.”

An anonymous donor is investing in the future of UCF Film via a $100,000 commitment during UCF’s Day of Giving.

This will support the UCF Film department funding travel for students and faculty, conferences, research, and projects as well as stipends for students working on related projects.

The gift will add great benefit to UCF Film in the future as it will allow the work to be showcased locally, domestically, and internationally.

Executive Director For Advancement at the College of Sciences, Tony Pomonis shares that:

“Gifts like these change lives forever. Without investment from supporters, alumni, and constituents UCF Film and the Nicholson School of Communication and Media in the College of Sciences would not be achieving excellence, launching industry careers, and shaping a better world.”
