The Mesoamerican Archaeology Lab is located in Chemistry 106A on the UCF campus. Brigitte Kovacevich and Michael Callaghan are the PIs of the lab which primarily focuses on lithic (stone tool) and ceramic analysis as well as experimental archaeology. Laboratory equipment includes a Handheld X-Ray Fluorescence device (HHXRF), a metallurgical microscope, petrographic microscopes, dino lite digital microscopes, stereomicroscopes, a table-top muffle furnace, table-top convection oven, and Skutt 7-cubic-foot capacity programmable kiln. Other activities include analysis of lidar data, the use of Geographic Information Systems, and archival research. This lab occasionally has opportunities for undergraduate research volunteers.
