Learning Assistant program coordination
I coordinate the Chemistry Department’s undergraduate teaching and learning assistants (UTAs and LAs). In addition to coordinating the selection, hiring, and supervising of UTAs and LAs, I facilitate workshops for faculty working with LAs and contribute to research on LA development and best practices for program coordination.
In 2025, our program was profiled in the Chronicle of Higher Education: The College Students Who Help Teach Their Peers

Creating Holistic Advising and Mentoring in Physical Sciences (CHAMPS)
I am part of a team of faculty in Chemistry, Physics, and Photonics working to support student success in the physical sciences. CHAMPS is a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation that will provide scholarships and holistic academic support to students in the physical sciences with financial need. STEM Discipline-Based Education Research
As a primarily instructional faculty, my scholarship in teaching and learning has immediate impacts on my students. My group uses an action research approach to study team function in collaborative course designs. As part of these efforts, I am part of a group of faculty working with the POGIL organization to transform large classes to use more teamwork: POGIL | Large Classroom Implementation Projects.
