Excellence in Mathematics

The Simons Foundation Division for Mathematics and the Physical Sciences recently awarded Zhisheng Shuai, Ph.D., with a grant for mathematics.Shuai-Zhisheng-250x250

Shuai, an associate professor at UCF, applied for the award with his work entitled, “Mathematical Investigation of Infectious Disease Models.”

He is the third UCF recipient of the award in the Department of Mathematics. The previous award winners were Dorin Dutkay, Ph.D. and Andrew Nevai, Ph.D..

Shuai will receive a five-year grant that will award him with $7,000 per year. The grant starts on September 1, 2015 and will conclude on August 31, 2020.

To apply, the applicant must have a Ph.D. and a tenure-track or tenured position, or be a professor emeritus, at a U.S. institution of higher education, have a current record of active research and publication in high-quality journals and not hold any other external grants of over $3,000 per year that allow for travel support or visitors during the Collaboration Grant award period.

The foundation anticipates distributing around 140 awards per year.
