GIS Terrorism Simulation
November 14, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
UCF ICCAE GIS Terrorism Simulation
Date: Thursday, November 14th, 2019
Time: 9:00AM-10:30AM
Location: UCF Main Campus https://map.ucf.edu/ Howard Phillips Hall, Room 310
In partnership with guests from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), the UCF Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence is proud to present its first Geographic Imaging Systems simulation workshop.
Participants will receive a prompt about the location of a hypothetical terrorist attack, the details on the number of and tactics of the perpetrators, and the weapon type used to carry it out. They will then be divided into groups and assigned a different terrorist group known to operate in the region. Using the GIS datasets we provide them, each group must then produce a product based on the terrorist organization they were assigned. The objective of the simulation would be to determine the probability scenario of that particular group being the perpetrators behind the attack based on the evidence.
After running the data and producing a product, the groups would then show their map and give a briefing to the rest of the group explaining their probability scenario to everyone.
Our NGA guests will be on hand to provide support to the groups as the construct their products and give advice. Currently our computer lab uses ArcGIS so familiarity with that software would be optimal for participation. This simulation is open to students from UCF IC CAE Consortium members such as Seminole State College as well!
When the scenario has been completed, our guests will critique the techniques of the various groups and open the floor for some Q&A.
Immediately following the simulation will be a luncheon with our NGA guests where students can continue to interact with them in a more informal setting!
