What is Pi Gammu Mu? Pi Gammu Mu is the oldest and preeminent honor society in the social sciences. Founded in 1924, its mission is to encourage and recognize superior scholarship in social science disciplines and to foster cooperation and social service among its members. It is a member of the Association of College Honors Societies and is affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The Society not only provides recognition for scholastic achievements, but also offers enrichment opportunities through service projects, publications, scholarships and lectureship grants.
Scholarships: Pi Gamma Mu offers ten scholarships each year for one year of graduate study in an area of the social sciences. Five are named scholarships honoring outstanding people affiliated with Pi Gamma Mu. These scholarships carry stipends of $2,000 or $1,000 and are awarded to chosen members annually.
Who Can Join? Juniors, seniors and graduate students become eligible to join when they meet the following criteria for membership: upper 35% of the class, a grade average of “B” or better, and 20 semester hours in social science courses. Contact Dr. Mike Armato or questions about eligibility.
