September 7, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Cash Rules Everything Around Militants

Update: This event has been canceled to allow students to prepare for Hurricane Irma.

Our first IC CAE event for the academic year is here, open to students and faculty:

Vera Mironova, International Security Fellow at the Belfer Center in Harvard Kennedy School, will present this Thursday September 7th from 1:30 – 2:30PM. Her field research in active and post-conflict zones has focused on understanding why individuals fight, how they choose a group to associate with, and why they choose to quit. She’s one of the lead authors on the “Voices of Syria” project, and she joins us after recent embedded research in Iraq and Syria.

Her presentation, co-sponsored by the Global Perspectives Office, will discuss the internal organization of armed groups and how Syria’s civil war can be examined through the lens of the labor market. Following the presentation and Q&A, there will be a reception with coffee and refreshments to meet our guest.

We hope to see you there!
