FAQ

This FAQ addresses questions specific to Anthropology graduate students. Students are also encouraged to review the UCF Graduate Studies FAQ for information about university policies, enrollment, graduation requirements, funding opportunities, and other graduate student resources.

How Is My Graduate Advisor Assigned?

As part of the application process, students identify faculty members whose research interests align with their own. Admission decisions are based on a holistic review of each application, including research fit and faculty availability. Students who are admitted are assigned a Graduate Advisor who serves as their primary mentor and guides their academic progress, research, and professional development throughout the program.

Can I Change Advisors?

Yes. Because advising relationships are based on mutual agreement, students may change advisors. Students interested in changing advisors should discuss the change with the prospective advisor and the Graduate Program Director.

What Is a Plan of Study (POS)?

The Plan of Study (POS) outlines the coursework required to complete your degree. Students work with their advisor to develop a Plan of Study and are encouraged to submit it by the end of their first semester. Any future changes must be approved through the appropriate departmental process.

What Is an Intent to Graduate (ITG)?

Students planning to graduate must submit an Intent to Graduate (ITG) through myUCF by the published university deadline. Students should consult their advisor and review Graduate Studies deadlines to ensure all degree requirements are completed on time.

What Student Organizations Are Available for Graduate Students?

  • Graduate Anthropology Association (GAA) – supports graduate student success through workshops, networking, travel funding, and community-building activities.
  • Anthropology Mentoring Program (AMP) – connects incoming and continuing students through peer mentorship.
