Biography
Marlon Koci was an international student from Albania who earned his Master’s degree in Anthropology at the University of Central Florida from 2019 to 2021, with support from the Fulbright program. Marlon worked under the supervision of Dr. J. Marla Toyne, focusing on bioarchaeological studies and applying stable isotope analysis to past human remains. For his MA thesis, Marlon applied stable isotope analysis on bone collagen to understand the diet of a Medieval Avar community in Continental Croatia.
Marlon started his PhD at the University of South Florida in 2023, focusing on archaeological science and bioarchaeological studies. He currently works as a Graduate Assistant and has served as the Co-Instructor of Record for the Fantastic Archaeology course. His area of interest is the Central Mediterranean, especially Albania, where he wants to understand the diet and mobility of past communities by applying isotopic analysis of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, strontium, and sulfur. Marlon is also interested in trade behavior using pXRF on pottery and other archaeological materials, as well as in pathological conditions in human remains.
