College of Sciences Dean’s Graduate Conference Travel Award
The College of Sciences is pleased to provide partial funding for travel for students currently enrolled in an eligible College of Sciences Doctoral or MFA program to present their research and equivalent creative activities (presentations, posters, creative works). Students must be primary authors and presenters.
For eligibility, students must be:
- Enrolled and in good academic standing in a College of Sciences Doctoral and MFA program.
- Engaged in dissertation research or final project work.
- Enrolled during the term of the award and at the time of the presentation to qualify for the payment. In the case of summer presentations, the student’s advisor must attest that the student will be enrolled in the subsequent Fall semester.
- Delivering a research presentation or comparable creative activity at a professional meeting, with preference being given to those presenting at national and international meetings. Students must be the primary author and the presenter.
In addition:
- Only one application per student may be funded for an academic year, including summer.
- Applicants must either: 1) have already applied for any funding from their programs that might be available, from the CGS Presentation Fellowship, and from SGA conference funding (see additional details here); or 2) apply in conjunction with this application. If doctoral/MFA programs provide travel funds, COS funds should be an addition to those funds rather than a replacement.
- For a presentation co-authored by two or more students, funding will be provided to only one student author/presenter.
- Applications must be approved prior to the start of travel. Applications must be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to anticipated travel when possible to allow for review, approval, and processing time. Applications that are not submitted in a timely manner prior to travel will be denied.
- Summer travel should be submitted prior to the end of the preceding Spring semester. Funds may not be available between May and August.
- The COS Dean’s Graduate Conference Travel Award program is primarily intended for full-time graduate students, but part-time students may also apply.
Process and Application Deadlines:
Funding will be allocated on a rolling basis every month. We are now accepting applications for conferences held in Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
Funds will be administered by your program staff and will cover incurred expenses, such as registration, airline tickets, or lodging. You must work with your program staff to coordinate covering your expenses at the time of purchase (e.g. airfare, registration) or submitting receipts for reimbursement in accordance with UCF’s travel guidelines and allowable expenses.
Please submit your application with plenty of time before your planned travel to allow for processing, which can take several weeks.
Award Amounts:
- Virtual: $100
- In-state: $200
- United States (including Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Alaska), Canada, or Mexico: $400
- International (except Canada or Mexico): $600
Application and Award Details:
- Funds are limited and not all applications will be approved.
- If approved, COS funds can be used for covering travel-related costs for university approved expenses only. Travel must be approved through the regular UCF approval processes prior to travel.
- Applicants must confirm that their conference presentation has been accepted. Funding will NOT be provided for attending a conference without an accepted presentation.
