2015 College Showcase

College Showcase 2015On September 19th, the College of Sciences participated in College Showcase 2015 which was an event hosted during Family Weekend 2015.  The showcase was hosted by the UCF College of Undergraduate Studies and took place at the student union.

The College of Sciences was among the many participating colleges.  The COS showcase included displays by the UCF Department of Physics, UCF Department of Biology, and UCF College of Sciences Academic Services.

Other colleges participated, including the College of Arts & Humanities, College of Education & Human Performance, College of Engineering & Computer Science, College of Health & Public Affairs, College of Optics & Photonics, College of Sciences, and Interdisciplinary Studies.College showcase- physics

At the event, the UCF Department of Physics showcased its planetary sciences exploration through several activities.

  • Sun and Moon observation through a telescope located outside the student union
  • Creating artificial comets with dry ice
  • Meteorites were also on display

The UCF Department of Biology showcased:
Current Oyster Reef and “Living Shoreline” Restoration Efforts in Florida

  • Touch tank with displays of estuarine biodiversity
  • Hands-on building of oyster mats for restoring oyster reefs in the Indian River Lagoon
  • Free distribution of children’s books on marine conservation co-authored by Dr. Linda Walters, her students and colleagues

Academic Advising for Biology

  • Department of biology representatives presented information about their new Career Advising Office and the biology major.

College of Sciences Academic Services hosted a table with information on the programs in each of the departments, school and academic areas in the college.
