September 10, 2024

Effective January 2nd, 2025, magnetic stripes on UCF Cards will no longer function for electronic card access. To ensure continued access to all university spaces utilizing electronic card access, cardholders must use a UCF Card equipped with a chip.

What Cardholders with Electronic Card Access Need to Do:

  1. Check Existing Card: Verify whether the current UCF Card has a chip. If it does, no further action is needed. UCF Cards with chips will have a series of numbers printed across the bottom of the back of the card beneath the logos. Most cards issued to faculty/staff since May 2018 already have chips.
  2. Replace the Card: If the card does not have a chip, visit the UCF Card Services office to exchange the existing card for a new chip-enabled card. 24 hours after UCF Card Services issues the new card, access will need to be moved from the old card to the new card. A card replacement is only required for those with electronic card access to one or more locations.

Why This Change? The transition to chip-enabled cards enhances security and improves the efficiency of our access control system. This change is part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all members of the UCF community.

Need Assistance? If you have any questions or need assistance with obtaining a new card, please contact UCF Card Services at (407) 823-2100 or visit their website at https://ucfcard.ucf.edu/. If you have any questions about this transition, please email Steven.Freund@ucf.edu.

Please note that the magnetic stripe will continue to function for other campus services. This change only affects electronic card access to university facilities.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we make this important transition.

If you or any faculty or staff in your areas use an older UCF ID card that does not have a prox-chip in it, the card will no longer work in the readers with the magnetic strip function.

Cards without the chip will need to be replaced at UCF Card Services and can be replaced free-of-charge if it is stated that the replacement is for access purposes. As stated, this change will take effect in January 2025.

If you have any questions, please reach out.

Thanks,

Raevaun
