Student Paper/Poster Competition

Student Paper/Poster Competition/Travel Award for ASA FL Chapter 2025

The ASA Florida Chapter is pleased to announce a student paper/poster competition for research in statistical methodology, theory, and applications. Winners of the competition will receive partial support to attend the ASA FL Chapter 2025 meeting in Orlando, Florida.

Eligibility:
  • Full-time students (undergraduate, master’s, or Ph.D.) enrolled at a university in Florida on or after September 1, 2024, are eligible.
  • Recipients must travel to the ASA FL Chapter 2025 meeting and present their work in a contributed talk or poster session to receive the travel award.
Application Deadline:
  • February 1, 2025, by 5 PM EST
Prizes:
  • Multiple travel awards will be granted to student winners.
  • Winners will also present their work in contributed talk or poster sessions at ASA FL Chapter 2025.

Professor of Statistics and Machine Learning
Professor of Operations Research and Financial Engineering

Jianqing Fan, is a statistician, financial econometrician, and data scientist. He is Frederick L. Moore ’18 Professor of Finance, Professor of Statistics, and Professor of Operations Research and Financial Engineering at the Princeton University, where he chaired the department from 2012 to 2015. He is the winner of The 2000 COPSS Presidents’ Award, Morningside Gold Medal for Applied Mathematics (2007), Guggenheim Fellow (2009), Pao-Lu Hsu Prize (2013), Guy Medal in Silver (2014), Noether Distinguished Scholar (2018), Le Cam Award and Lectures (2021). He got elected to Academician from Academia Sinica​ (中央研究院院士) in 2012 and Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium (比利时皇家科学院院士) in 2023.

Dr. Ji-Hyun Lee

Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Florida
Associate Director for Cancer Quantitative Sciences at the University of Florida Health Cancer Center
President of the American Statistical Association (ASA)

Dr. Ji-Hyun Lee is a Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Florida and Associate Director for the Cancer Quantitative Sciences at the University of Florida Health Cancer Center (UFHCC). Her role at the UFHCC involves providing strategic leadership and direction, fostering rigorous and integrated research among Cancer Center scientists. Dr. Lee earned her master’s and doctorate in Biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the design and conduct of clinical trials, cluster/group randomized trials, methods for repeated measurements, and best statistical practices. She also serves on the scientific review and monitoring committee for UFHCC’s therapeutic clinical trials.
