Dave and Alexandria Lacoursière have a paper in press at Oikos entitled “A tipping point for tipping points” (hat tip to Ken Fedorka for that title). It will be available open access when ready. The paper was helped by lots of conversation in Advanced Ecology!

Alessandra is now Dr. Pandolfi ! Her defense (May 18) was smooth and complete, and she and Davide are planning to move on to U. Missouri in the fall. Way to go, Alessandra!

  • Jacob successfully defended his PhD dissertation June 20th!
  • Davidé (honorary lab member) successfully defended his PhD dissertation June 24th!
  • Michelle, Jacob, and Davidé all walked through graduation Aug. 1, which also happened to be Dave’s official retirement date.
  • The lab is now shut down for building renovations. We are geographically scattered about but this page will maintain updates.

Dave and colleagues (Leo Ohyama, Juan Bogota-Gregory) have a new paper out in Frontiers of Biogeography, entitled “Peak beta diversity occurs at regional spatial grains.” This work indicates ecological communities are bigger than you think… You can see it here.

Hannah successfully defended her Ph.D dissertation June 25! She got final edits submitted and is now Dr. Bevan. She starts as faculty at Eastern Florida State College in August.

Jacob and colleagues (Alessandra Pandolfi from UCF Biology, Theressa Jones from Seminole County Mosquito Control, and Dave) have a paper accepted in Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association entitled “Ground-based pyrethroid adulticides reduce mosquitoes but not nontarget insects in Central Florida.” This is the first chapter from Jacob’s dissertation.
