Course Planning

What’s my UCF ID? GEP Classes Major Courses
  • Use your GEP (General Education Program) Sheet to plan your schedule. You need:
    • To complete, at minimum, 12 GEP courses/36 credit hours.
    • One diamond (state core) course from each of the 5 Foundational areas (black headers).
    • One civic literacy course (AMH 2010, AMH 2020 or POS 2041 from the Social Sciences Foundation)
    • Four GRW courses – ENC 1101, ENC 1102, and two additional courses.
  • If you haven’t completed the ECE, and you have prior college-level credits, it will be difficult to plan. Complete the ECE to ensure you don’t register for unnecessary courses.
  • If you have earned an A.A. degree in the state of Florida, your GEP classes are complete. Focus on Major courses.

Registration

COSAS Course Overrides ENC 1102 Overrides Other Overrides How to Search for Classes
(Registration Lab Presentation)
  • Build your shopping cart. If you need help, see How to Search for Classes.
  • Starting at 11:15 AM on your 2nd day of orientation, you will be able to enroll into the courses. Examine any errors you receive.
  • If you need further classes to fill your schedule (such as if your preferred classes are unavailable) you may wish to consider taking a “Free Elective”.
  • Complete the COSAS Schedule Checkout once you’ve finished registering. When prompted, raise your hand and wait for an advisor to sign off on your schedule.
    • Afterwards, you’ll be prompted to complete the FTIC Orientation Checkout as well.
You must leave the registration lab no later than 1:00pm. You may continue to add, drop and swap classes at home now that your orientation hold is lifted.

Resolving Registration Errors

Click on the error to display tips for resolving it.

If you’ve completed the prerequisite course at another institution or via test credit, you may request a temporary override to register while your transcripts are still being processed. Complete the appropriate Override form (College of Science Courses or ENC 1102). Proceed with registering your other courses and keep an eye on your email for a reply. Overrides do not waive the prereq requirement; they allow registration while your pending transcripts enter the UCF system.
Only Certain Majors may take classes on the downtown campus. If you receive this error, your Major is not among them; Choose a different section. All downtown courses have section numbers ending in the 70’s. They also commonly are in locations “DPAC”, “UWXV”, or “CMB”. In class details, they say “Downtown”.
If a course ends in the letter “H”, you must be an Honors College student to enroll. Honors enrollment occurs when you first apply for admission. If you are interested in applying as an Honors student in the future, save or bookmark https://honors.ucf.edu/ to contact the program after your orientation.
Click on the section link from your shopping list. Make sure “Waitlist if full” is selected. Try enrolling again.
You have exceeded the maximum allowable number of credit hours for one semester. For Fall & Spring, 12 hours is full-time, and the maximum is 17 hours. For Summer, 6 hours is full-time, and the maximum is 14 hours.
You have chosen two classes whose times overlap. Consider 1) does either course have other sections? 2) If not, is either course is an important prerequisite for later courses in your major?

Major Documents for Accelerated and AA Students

Use these for schedule planning if you are accelerated (a lot of incoming credit) or have your AA and need to find some additional courses.

Warning: If you are still working on your General Education classes, please focus on those courses and save the information below for future reference only. Your introductory major courses are always noted on your GEP planning sheet from the morning session. Taking upper-level major courses is not recommended in your first semester at UCF unless there are no other options.

These documents may not be up-to-date. Always check with your major department directly for the most up-to-date requirements and electives.

Free / Unrestricted Electives

Meaningful Electives for COS Students

Courses that are not strictly required by your GEP or Major may be taken as “Free Electives”. Not all students will need Free/Unrestricted Electives, however, some may for a variety of reasons. Reasons you may take unrestricted electives:

  • Need more credits to reach 120 the unduplicated credits your degree requires.
  • Need more upper level (3000-4000 level) credits to meet your 42 upper level requirement.
  • Need credits to be full time and still working on prerequisites before you can take more major courses.
  • Need an online option over the summer.
  • Personal interest.
  • Balancing out a heavy schedule with something interesting.

The list of “meaningful electives” (gold button at right) are not the only options, but they are a brief list of suggestions. Not all courses may be offered all semesters, or in your prefered mode. Ask an advisor if you have questions about taking an elective.
