The Sociology Graduate Student Association (SGSA) is a student-led and student-centered organization that exists to serve its members in three specific areas:

Advancing Student Research

SGSA supports graduate students’ academic endeavors by creating opportunities to develop their research ideas. Through roundtable discussions, members of SGSA receive constructive feedback on their research in preparation for professional conferences or publications. SGSA also utilizes its social media presence to promote published work by graduate students in the department.

Curating a Holistic Community

As an organization, we understand the necessity of a supportive community for graduate students, as well as the positive impact that it has. SGSA creates this supportive community by coordinating events for members to engage socially with their peers as they navigate through the graduate programs.

Promoting Sociological Exploration

SGSA encourages its members to explore diverse perspectives within the discipline. To this end, SGSA hosts a speaker series entitled, “Sociological Perspectives: Topics in the Field.” The series features sociologists in both academic and applied professions discussing current topics that are of interest to graduate students.
