Biography

Sara Tehrani is a doctoral candidate at the University of Central Florida. She holds a Master of Science in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Sociology from Valdosta State University.

Sara is a passionate educator who views the classroom as a space for liberation, critical consciousness, and empowerment. Her teaching is rooted in decolonial praxis, epistemic inclusion, and the principles of engaged pedagogy.

Sara’s primary research and teaching interests focus on racial and obstetrical violence, particularly the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit Peoples; the overmedicalization of African American women’s birth through cesarean delivery; and genetic testing in prenatal screening. Sara is committed to conducting responsible, culturally responsive research that centers the voices and experiences of historically marginalized communities.
