Biography
My name is Vernon Headley, born in Tampa, Florida. I am a first-generation student. My educational background begins at Valencia College (2014-2016), where I received my Associate Degree. Then I transferred to UCF and received my Bachelor of Arts and Master’s in Sociology.
I am a Ph.D. student in Sociology, researching in the areas of social and educational inequality, medical sociology, African American communities, African American fatherhood, social theory, and quantitative and qualitative methodologies. My current year as first-year generation student has been one of the best experiences in my life.
The mentorship and opportunities have help me become not only a successful graduate student but also a true mentor for all future first generation students. My career plans are to become a university professor and conduct both academic research and applied work studies within the African American communities.
Also, I would like to travel extensively to assist poor developing countries struggling to address their poor access to education, health, and safety. Ultimately, I would like to start a foundation dedicated to affording a targeted citizenry to have a productive and prosperous living, with quality education at the center of everything.
