In response to the news that 8 people, mostly Asian women, were murdered in Georgia, we in the Department of Sociology want to acknowledge the effects this may have on Asian members of the UCF community and more broadly in Asian communities everywhere.
These killings are unsurprising, given the rise in anti-Asian rhetoric and violence over the past year. Of course, understanding these issues sociologically does nothing to protect us from the horror and ensuing grief that follows such acts.
We are writing to remind everyone that we have services available at UCF (including online therapy services) to help you take care of yourselves at this time.
