Overview
For E&G 9-month faculty, the salary funded by UCF/College of Sciences covers the assignment of duties teaching, research, service, other) associated with COS. During the academic year, if a faculty member is working on a grant or project and the budget includes salary during the academic year then a buyout must be submitted to start charging the project number. For a faculty member wanting to receive a course release (aka course buyout) the college requires the rate to be 12.5% of the faculty member’s 9-month salary plus fringe for one course. There are other options if the faculty member doesn’t not want to be released from a course. Please see the policy for more details.
The College of Sciences policy statement can be found on the Faculty Affairs website.
To implement a buyout, the unit will need to prepare a “Buyout Request Form.” This form is accessible by the staff member in each unit responsible for HR or Budget. Once approved by the Chair/Director and Dean (if needed), the COS Administrative area will update the faculty member’s compensation schedule and initiate the appropriate electronic Personnel Action Form (ePAF) to implement.
If it involves transferring salary to summer, the COS Administrative area will record it on the faculty member’s summer compensation schedule.
