Courtesy appointments requests MUST be approved by Faculty Affairs prior to sending an appointment letter. College of Sciences’ procedures are outlined below.
Process
1. Host Unit emails the desired Appointee (Courtesy Appointment Email to Appointee) to request information needed (listed below) to complete Faculty Affairs form.
- Curriculum Vitae or Resume
- Birth date and last 4 digits of social security number (needed for Courtesy Approval Form)
- Official Transcripts (if instructor of record)
2. Host Unit will prepare Appointment Application File which includes the following:
- Courtesy Appointment Approval Form (Courtesy Appointment Approval form)
- SACS Teaching Credentials Certification Request and official transcripts (if instructor of record)
- Curriculum Vitae or Resume
- Nomination and Appointment to Graduate Faculty and Graduate Faculty Scholars Form (Nomination and (Courtesy) Appointment form) (if participating in Graduate level activities)
- Letter of Appointment from the host unit signed by Chair/Director (Courtesy Appointment Letter of Appointment) – which is not to be sent to potential appointee until approved by College & Faculty Affairs. The following information should be included in the letter:
1. the designation of the proposed host unit
2. an overview of the appointee’s contributions to the proposed host unit
3. an overview of the appointee’s rights and responsibilities in the host unit
4. the length of the appointment if less than five years
